I’ve been teaching literature and writing at the college level for a little over 40 years now, and I’ve done the scholarly publishing thing, writing about literature and literary theory for an audience of academic peers. For this blog, however, I decided I would try to write about these matters in a way that made sense to a more general audience.  The entries here should be thought of as random pages from a never-was book, Literature: The Missing Manual. In these pages I’ll try to focus on ideas and practices that could help bridge the gap between those who simply enjoy literature and those who study it in a formal and theoretical way.
